The Core Curriculum is one of the glories of Columbia. It has survived since 1919 but it is gradually being undermined and chipped away at. Inappropriate books are introduced into it, like the Koran into Contemporary Civilization. Leftist faculty deliberately mis-teach it with an air of contempt for the readings. The non-Western "major cultures requirement" imposes politically correct but irrelevant requirements.

Fortunately, Columbia still takes the core seriously enough that it is endowing professorships devoted specifically to teaching it. We call on the administration to extend this seriousness by doing the following:

1. Removing inappropriate readings.

2. Prohibiting teachers from imposing their personal biases.

3. Revoking the major cultures requirement.
