Barnard Relaxes Admissions Standards

President Schapiro has taken affirmative action to its ridiculous conclusion: she has now implemented a policy of considering all high schools equal for purposes of the admissions process. This means that someone who graduates with A's from a very bad school with low academic standards will be considered to have made the same achievement as someone who graduates with A's from a top public or private school like the Bronx High School of Science.

The purpose of this policy is to bring in more minority students now that explicit affirmative action has rightly become suspect in the public mind. It constitutes a naked admission that Barnard cannot find "enough" of these students who meet the traditional competitive standards that made Barnard a respected college in the first place.

We call on all alumnae to call Ms. Schapiro and protest this policy. We also point out to Columbia alumni that Columbia College is clearly next.
